Prater Industries prides itself not only on its cutting-edge equipment and innovative techniques but also on its involvement in green industries like recycling that contribute to the health of our planet. Prater provides customers with machinery for breaking down e-waste, food waste, wood waste, and other recyclable materials, transforming waste into usable material that can be made into new products. Rising prices in all forms of raw materials have improved the ROI and return on investment and reduced the payback periods. An example is metals, where the raw material costs have made recovering valuable metals from e-waste highly profitable, often more profitable than processing mined ore.
Prater’s recycling machinery handles a wide variety of e-waste, including:
- Cell phones and chargers
- Compact disks
- Computer hard drives
- Consumer electronics
- Microchips (including lead frames)
- Printed circuit boards
- Rechargeable batteries
- Semiconductors
- Televisions
Recycling Wood Waste
Prater’s equipment also supports the recycling of wood waste. Reducing and processing waste wood allows it to be used for various other products.
Recycled wood waste can be used in:
- Animal bedding
- Barbecue briquettes
- Biofuel
- Compost
- Fillers
- Firestarters
- Industrial wood flour
- Other wood-based products
- Plywood
- Wood paneling
Prater Industries can customize its equipment to recycle just about any substance that requires particle reduction, including non-wood organic matter and plastics.
Processing Equipment for Recycling
Prater provides a range of equipment to support recycling efforts that require material reduction. We help implement and integrate our machinery into systems, providing support with testing and toll processing related to product development, emergency production, and product testing.
Equipment Prater makes that can be used in recycling applications includes:
Our hammermills break e-waste into manageable sizes as its hammering mechanisms pass the grate or screen, further reducing material through grinding actions. Hammermills reduce e-waste and ensure that sensitive data is scoured from electronic equipment during the recycling process.
In 2021, Prater acquired IPEC (International Process Equipment Company), known for manufacturing quality rotor mills, which work well in recycling operations. This multi-purpose mill uses an internal rotor, which pulverizes particles by spinning at high speed. The turbulence causes particles to collide, causing further reduction, while using heavy-duty bearings positioned outside the mill’s grinding chamber to prevent material contamination and provide stability during operation.
